The following quotation is from the “Hierophant,” No. 7, p. 157—written by George Bush, Prof of Hebrew, at New York City University.

Editor Notes: I will include a link to this article on the “Little Horn” that was wounded in 1798. This quote is taken from the closing paragraph, which I will draw your attention to after you read it.

“Having endeavored to fix the date of the 70. weeks, or 490 years, and having shown that the 2,300 days, or years, must commence with them, the calculation of the latter number may be easily, and I hope satisfactorily, made. The 2,300 years began 490 before the death of our Lord Jesus Christ and 457 years before his birth, at which the Christian Era commenced. If we subtract 457 from 2,300, the remainder will give that year in the Christian Era when the 2,300 years will expire. By this simple operation, we find this number will end in 1843. Editor Notes: These early Advents understood that Daniel Chapter 8, 2300-day prophecy and Daniel Chapter 9: 24-27, 70-week prophecy were connected. I agree that they are together, but we need to review these two prophecies in light of the days in which we are living. William Miller, also a great student of the Scriptures and history, understood these appointed times were connected to the final cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary and the Second Coming of Jesus. It is now 180 years after 1844 AD, and we need to be alert and wide awake in these last days. The end of the 6,000 years is running out. If we believe what Ellen wrote when she explained in 27 AD to be the end of the first 4,000 years of sin. So if we start at 27 AD and add 2,000 years = 2027, AD would end the 6,000 years. Now, in light of world events, this shold wake everyone from their sleep.

It is essential to understand that in 1843/1844, they believed the end of the 2300-day prophecy concluded with the final cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary. Now consider the exact words in Daniel 8:14: “And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Now read Daniel 9:24: “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” I believe the heavenly sanctuary will be cleansed on the last day Jesus will be working in the Temple’s Most Holy. He will change his garments and exit the Temple when he is done. When he exits, he will no longer be standing between the Father and Earth, and the Father will pour his bowls of wrath, also called the Seven Last Plagues, upon the wicked who have worshiped the Brest, taken his number, or bowed to his image. Both the 2300th day and within the 70th week, we read that the Most Holy will be anointed, and we all should know what that means if we have read the Day of Atonement in Lev chapter 16. With this view then, Daniel’s 70th week must be at the end of the age, not right after the 69th week. The Church view has never fit all the requirements for the 70th week to end 3.5 years after the Cross. Daniel 9:26 requires the City of Jerusalem to be destroyed within the 70th week of seven years! How can we force 70 AD into the Adventist present view of Daniel 2300 days or the 70th week of Daniel?

In times past, the Father has delayed his perfect plan due to man’s sin. For example, when Israel came to the Jordan River to cross over into the Jordan River, what was called a 40-year delay. They could have crossed over the first time if they had faith and trust. Before that, remember Moses came down Mt Sinai with the Law and, in his anger, broke the two stones on the exact appointed Feast of Weeks on the 29th of the biblical 4th month. Moses’ face did not light up as planned! So there was a delay, and Moses had to cut out the two stones he broke and go back up Mt Sinai and try again to get it right. When he came down this time, his face lighted up so bright that they covered his face. This corrected date of the Feast of Weeks was critical to this Prophecy Study.
